The hybrid pool

What a hybrid football pool is

A hybrid football pool is one pool that runs games from more than one league — most often the NFL and NCAA College Football in the same week. Your players make one set of picks, Saturday and Sunday are scored the same way, and one standings table covers all of it.

Groups call it different things: an NFL/NCAA hybrid, a mashup pool, a combined football pool, an office pool that just happens to run both. They all mean the same thing, and on Pooldit it is a setting rather than a workaround.

You decide what goes in. Take the full slate from each league every week, or hand-pick a curated list — four college games and six NFL games, the primetime windows only, the rivalry weekend and nothing else. The list is set per week, so a 40-game Saturday can be the five matchups your group actually watches.

And the mix is independent of the format. A hybrid pool can be a straight pick'em, a confidence pool with weighted picks, a survivor pool, an allowance pool, or a Pick X Parlay — the leagues are one setting and the format is another.

Separate or combined — your pool, your rules. Nothing forces the mix. An NFL-only pool and a College-Football-only pool are the same setup with one box unticked, and plenty of groups run one of each alongside a hybrid. Combining is an option, never a requirement.

For the commissioner

Set it up once, then send one link

Create the pool, choose your leagues, decide full slate or curated games, pick a format, and send the invite link. That is the setup — and everything after it is automatic.

  • Pick your leagues

Tick NFL, College Football, or both — plus MLB and the other leagues we run. The in-app sport picker is the honest, current list: it shows what is playable now, what is dormant until its season opens, and what is still roadmap.

  • Full slate or curated games

Take every game each league plays that week, or select the games yourself, week by week. Mix six NFL games with four college games and the pool sees one combined sheet.

  • Lines that update themselves

Spreads, moneylines and totals populate from real sportsbook odds and keep updating until you publish the week. Nobody types a number into a spreadsheet.

  • Games lock at kickoff

Picks close per game at kickoff, or all at once — your call at setup. Either way a Sunday pick cannot be made after the Saturday results are in.

  • Scoring is automatic

Games score themselves as they go final, with multiple scoring updates an hour, and the standings table moves the moment a game ends. You never tally anything.

  • One invite link

Anyone who opens it can preview the pool and join. Nothing to install, no per-player fee, and no charge to your players at all.

Straight-pick NFL, College Football and MLB pools are free to run, and playing is always free — any pool, any format, any plan. Pooldit never takes a cut of whatever your group plays for.

One pool, two seasons

Why both seasons in one pool beats running two

Two pools means two invite links, two rulebooks to explain, two standings tables and two arguments about who is actually winning. One hybrid pool means one of each — and the same people in the same room all season, whether that room is an office, a group chat or a family thread.

It also means your pool has something live on both days of the weekend. Now featuring NFL, College, or Hybrid Survivor Pools — for the NFL season, or the remainder of the College season! Every week there is a Saturday slate and a Sunday slate — and a combined pool runs one race across all of it.

The two calendars cover for each other, too. College Football thins out into bowl season right as the NFL stretch run gets serious, so a hybrid pool stays worth playing in the weeks when either league on its own would have gone quiet.

Pools play for dits, an in-app currency that just keeps score of whatever your group already agreed on in the real world. Dits are not money and never convert to money.

Pool formats

Every format runs hybrid

Pick the format when you create the pool. Each one below works on an NFL-only pool, a College-Football-only pool, or both leagues together.

  • Pick'em

    1 pt / correct

Pick winners straight up. Most correct picks takes the week. Free to run on NFL, College Football and MLB.

  • Confidence

    3-2-2 · custom weightings

Rank your picks and put more weight on the games you trust. Straight up or against the spread.

  • Survivor

    1 pick / week

One team a week to win, never repeated. Lose once and you're out — and a hybrid pool doubles the teams you have to spend.

  • Allowance

    nits per week

Everyone gets a budget of nits — the pool’s own play-money currency — to spend across moneylines, spreads and totals, paid out the way the book would pay them. Carry your winnings forward, or start level every week.

  • Pick X Parlay

    all X correct

The commissioner sets the games and markets on offer; you make your X selections and need every one. Miss once and the pot carries.

Straight answers

What is a hybrid football pool?

A hybrid football pool is a single pool that mixes games from more than one league — most commonly the NFL and NCAA College Football in the same week. Everyone makes one set of picks, Saturday college games and Sunday NFL games are scored the same way, and one standings table covers all of it. It is the same thing people mean by an NFL/NCAA hybrid, a mashup pool, or an office pool that runs both. On Pooldit the commissioner chooses the leagues when the pool is created, and can either take the full weekly slate from each league or curate a shorter list of games by hand.

Can I mix NFL and college football in the same pick'em pool?

Yes. Tick both leagues when you create the pool and the weekly sheet includes games from each one. It is not limited to pick'em, either — the same league mix works in confidence, survivor, allowance and Pick X Parlay pools. You can also run them apart: an NFL-only pool and a College-Football-only pool are the same setup with one box unticked. Separate or combined, your pool, your rules.

Is it free?

Playing is always free. Anyone you invite can join any pool at no charge on any plan, there is no per-player fee, and Pooldit never takes a cut of what your group plays for. Straight-pick NFL, College Football and MLB pools are free to run as well. Pooldit is in open beta right now, so every feature is open to everyone at no cost through October 31, 2026; from November 1 a commissioner who wants the spread-based formats, every league, unlimited pools and full stat accrual will pay $5 a month, cancel anytime. Billing has not opened yet — every button on this site creates a free account today.

How do the odds work?

Spreads, moneylines and totals populate automatically from real sportsbook lines and keep updating until your pool locks, so the numbers your players are picking against are the numbers the market is actually showing. Pooldit is not a sportsbook and not a gambling site: there is nothing to deposit, nothing to wager here and nothing to cash out. Pools play for dits, an in-app currency that keeps score of whatever your group already agreed on in the real world. The real lines are there because they make the picks more interesting and let us grade performance honestly, not because anything is being staked on this site.

Can players who miss a week use autopick?

Yes. Any player can set an autopick agent — favorite, underdog, home or away — and Pooldit fills their sheet the moment the deadline passes, so one missed Saturday does not sink a season. Players Club members can go further and build custom agents out of the conditions they actually believe in, keep a bench of them, and run different agents in different pools.
